The Children’s Refuge Service provides a safe place where children can
explore and express how they are feeling and come to terms with the
changes in their lives. Our Children’s Workers offer support and
advice relating to you and your children.
You will be given a “children’s welcome book”
on your arrival to the refuge for you and your child to read together,
it gives you and your child all the information you will need to know
about our refuge based children’s service. The children’s
workers will help you with finding nursery and school places, provide
information on local facilities for your children and they will put
you in touch with the local Health Visitors on your arrival to the refuge
if your child is under three.
The Children’s service provides play sessions for preschool and
school age children, outings for mothers/carers and their babies/toddlers.
We run holiday play schemes, hold regular “children’s
meeting” for the children living at the refuge, to ensure
that the children have their say in the running of events and activities,
and are given their own “safe space” .
The service also runs “drop-in
sessions” which provides support and advice for mothers
on all issues relating to their children.
